abstract

background: preeclampsia is a condition observed during pregnancy and threatens the life of both mother and fetus. there are studies which suggest that preeclampsia play a major role in the left ventricular mass. the aim of this study is to compare the electrocardiographic changes in normal pregnant and preeclamptic women. methods: the studied groups consisted of 48 mild preeclamptic, 33 severe preeclamptic and 42 normal pregnant women. to measure left ventricular indices such as sokolow and cornell; the obtained ecgs from patients were used. results : the left ventricular mass in preeclamptic group, severely preeclamptic group and control group were 21.62mm, 23.45mm, and 20.85mm respectively. there was no statistically significant difference among groups with regards to sokolow index. the left ventricular mass in preeclamptic group, severely preeclamptic group and control group were 10.52mm, 12.30mm, 9.07mm. there were statistically significant differences among the groups with regards to cornell index. conclusion: it seems that the increasing of left ventricular mass is one of the important effects in preeclampsia during pregnancy whose recognition has been done in previous studies via ecg. the results of this study showed that electrocardiography could be used as an instrument in the diagnosis of left ventricular function in preeclamptic women.

Evaluation of Sleep Problems in Preeclamptic, Healthy Pregnant and Non-Pregnant Women

OBJECTIVE Sleep problems are common complaints among pregnant women. This study was designed to compare subjective sleep problems in non-pregnancy condition, healthy and preeclamptic pregnancy as a major complication of pregnancy. We hypothesized that some sleep problems are more prevalent in females with preeclampsia. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 102 women with preeclampsia, 106 he...

Plasma lipoproteins in normal and preeclamptic pregnant women

Background: Preeclampsia is one of the most common complications of pregnancy. It is the cause of high morbidity and mortality for mothers and fetuses, especially in developing countries. The etiology of preeclampsia is unknown. One of the hypothesis on pathophysiology of preeclampsia is dyslipidemia. The aim of this study was to determine maternal plasma levels of lipoproteins in patients with...

Non-Invasive Hemodynamic Assessment of Non-pregnant, Healthy Pregnant and Preeclamptic Women using Bio-Reactance

Methods: We studied healthy term pregnant women at term (Preg, n = 10), mildly preeclamptic pregnant women at term (PregPE, n = 10), and healthy non-pregnant female volunteers (NonPreg, n = 10). With the subjects in the semi left lateral position, 4 electrodes of the NICOM device were applied to their chest wall, followed by a 15-minute rest period. Hemodynamic variables, including the systolic...

Evaluation of 24-Hour Urine Copper in Preeclamptic Vs. Normotensive Pregnant and Non-Pregnant Women

Background The aim of this study was to evaluate copper status in women with preeclampsia. MaterialsAndMethods Sixty preeclamptic, sixty normotensive pregnant and sixty healthy nonpregnant women were enrolled in a cross sectional study. The 24-hour urine copper was compared among the women. Results There was significant difference in the copper concentration of 24-hour urine among the three gro...

Plasma of pregnant and preeclamptic women activates monocytes in vitro.

OBJECTIVE The objective of the study was to test the hypothesis that factors circulating in the plasma of pregnant women and women with preeclampsia activate monocytes. STUDY DESIGN Blood samples were taken from patients with early-onset severe preeclampsia (n = 9), healthy pregnant women (n = 9), and healthy nonpregnant women (n = 9). A monocytic cell line was incubated with the plasma for 4...
